Kainan Sa Kanto is a Filipino turo-turo on the corner of Del Amo. Lechon, adobo, tocino, pancit and skewers sitting hot in the trays, a bakery counter, and a Filipino grocery along the back wall.
Open at 7am, every day
Seven days a week, we are open before most kitchens have turned the lights on. Tocino, longganisa and garlic rice for breakfast.
Point at what you want
Turo-turo means point-point. Everything is cooked and sitting in the trays, so you can see it before you choose it and you eat straightaway.
Bakery and grocery too
Fresh bread daily, plus shelves of canned goods, frozen goods, sauces and snacks. Eat in, take out, and do the pantry shop in one stop.

Turo-turo means point-point.
There is no waiting for a kitchen ticket. A dozen or more dishes are cooked fresh and sitting hot in the trays, so you walk up, look at what is actually there today, and point at the ones you want.
Pick two or three over rice, or have it packed to take home. The portions are big enough that people regularly leave with half of it in a box.
It is a small corner spot with a few tables. Nobody comes here for the room. They come because the food tastes like somebody's Lola made it.
Lechon, and everything you would put beside it.
Crispy skin that gives way to tender meat underneath. Alongside it: fried bangus over garlic rice, tocino, pork and chicken skewers off the grill, and kare-kare for anyone who wants the proper thing.
Then turon to finish, and halo halo if it is hot out.

What tends to be in the trays.
It changes through the day and through the week, which is the point of a turo-turo. Call ahead if you have your heart set on something.

The back wall is a small Filipino grocery: canned goods, frozen goods, sauces, condiments and the snacks you cannot find in a regular supermarket.
Fresh bread comes out through the day. Pandesal, pan de coco with chocolate inside, and whatever else has been baked that morning.
It is the reason people drive over from Long Beach and leave with lunch, dinner and a bag of groceries.

KAINAN SA KANTO is a must try if you are living or visiting the Long Beach California area. While we were there 3 separate Filipina locals came and also got large orders, that is a good sign.
